Alibaba Partners With Qihoo 360 To Best Rival Baidu

TechCrunch reports that Alibaba, the company that could soon handle more than $1 trillion in annual transactions, and Chinese software company Qihoo 360 are teaming up to launch a new online shopping search engine.

Called 360.etao.com, the search tool is meant to compete with similar offerings from rival Baidu, often referred to as the Far East nation’s answer to Google, which currently accounts for more than 67 percent of the search market share in China.

“Qihoo 360, which launched its search engine just nine months ago, declared in February that it intends to double its current market share to 20 percent this year,” according to the news outlet.

The move follows a similar partnership Qihoo 360 made in January with Sina Weibo, one of the region’s most influential popular microblogging platforms.
