Amazon will roll out its Amazon Web Services suite to China starting in 2014, TechCrunch reported on December 18.
AWS China will compete with Alibaba, a major force in regional eCommerce. Alibaba’s service mirrors aspects of Amazon’s, like commercial solutions for merchants and a cloud-computing platform called Aliyun.
The move could stir competition in the regional eCommerce market. As Market Platform Dyanmics CEO Karen Webster explained in a recent piece of commentary, Alibaba is on the cusp of significant growth opportunities.
