Bitcoin Baffles Law Enforcement

The popular virtual currency bitcoin is posing new challenges to law enforcement officials, an October 22 report from The Wall Street Journal suggests.

The article compared the payment method to cash, citing the difficulty law officers have tracing it to specific users.

“Bitcoins seek to be virtually untraceable, leaving the buyers and sellers of drugs seemingly hidden from law enforcement,” DEA spokesman Lawrence Payne told the media outlet. “As for investigations, law enforcement is keeping up with every new method criminals are using to evade authorities.”
