Etsy Opens Doors For New Merchants

Etsy, the New York-based online marketplace for handmade and vintage items, has announced its intent to change its policies for sellers, according to AllThingsD.com.

This move will “make it possible for [sellers] to hire as many employees as their business demands, use outside firms to deliver their goods, and outsource all manufacturing of a product to third parties.”

Before making this move, Etsy was not clear on the maximum amount of people that could be involved in the making of “handmade” items, though the company did indicate that outside manufacturers could only help to make product parts.

Now, products sold on Etsy will be labeled as handmade as long as the seller is responsible for the original idea, and they control and are clear on how it is produced.
