MasterCard Teams Up With Russia’s Tele2

MasterCard has launched a new virtual international payment card in partnership with Tele2 Russia, a subsidiary of a major European telecommunications operator Tele2, VentureBeat reported on October 19.

Called Tele2 MasterCard virtual card, the new payment instrument allows online shoppers to pay for purchases online by depositing funds into the card through a mobile account.

“Tele2 is actively developing the mobile commerce segment,” Roman Volodin, Tele2 Russia’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement. “We aim to create a universal payment instrument based on the subscriber’s mobile account.”
