MasterCard has announced the creation of a dining reviews website which will leverage the company’s vast stores of customer purchase data, Finextra reported on December 17.
The new site will complete against Yelp and TripAdvisor, which offer similar consumer reviews for restaurants by location.
“With petabytes of purchase behavior, we’ll be able to make a variety of recommendations, so you can eat where New Yorkers eat when they’re in Barcelona…or if you want to avoid New Yorkers when you’re in Barcelona, where they don’t eat,” Cristobel von Walstrom vice president of MasterCard Advisors Information Services, said in a statement.
The program is not unlike that of new startup Wisely, which looks to leverage payments data to inform purchases. To learn more about this innovative startup, read our full report here.
