Morrison’s Gets With The Times, Rolls Out Online Delivery

British grocery store, Morrisons, is finally catching up with its other UK rivals as they announced a recent agreement with Ocado to begin online delivery for customers by January 2014, reports The Telegraph. Prior to the announcement, Morrisons was the only major British supermarket, out of the “Big Four,” that did not sell products online. Morrisons initially hesitated to gear up online services because they worried online grocery retailing had low profitability, but it seems they’ve realized the lack of online presence would soon hinder market share and competitive edge. The Telegraph reports that the Ocado deal cost Morrisons £170 million, which includes buying Ocado’s new distribution center in the Midlands. It will cost the grocer £46 million more to further develop the site.
