mPowa Turns Mobile Phones To Payment Wands

MPowa, a British mobile payments firm, has announced plans to launch a new service that will enable consumers to purchase goods by just pointing a smartphone at the item, reported The Sunday Times. The company designed software that uses mobile phone cameras to detect objects through pictures or in real life. Customers will be able to make immediate purchases through the software, and even set up delivery to their homes.

Several large retailers and other manufacturers have already signed on with mPowa to take part in the new program. The service is expected to launch this summer.

Dan Wagner, founder of mPowa believes the technology will change mobile commerce. Wagner stated, “It melds the world of online retail, real world advertising and the high street, and provides manufacturers with a way to bypass the traditional retail chain and sell direct to the customer.”
