New UK Unit Commits To Ending Online Piracy, Counterfeiting

The UK government is developing a new police unit that will be committed to preventing online piracy and the sales of counterfeit goods sold online, reported The Next Web. The new branch will receive partial funds from the Intellectual Property Organization. Currently, the UK’s ISPs block the majority of torrent websites due to recent court orders from the City of London Police.

Lord Younger, the minister for IP in the UK, said, “Intellectual property crime has long been a problem in the world of physical goods, but with the growing use of the internet, online intellectual property crime is now an increasing threat to our creative industries.”
