Portugal Jumps On NFC Bandwagon

Morpho, the technology provider, announced that it will supply NFC SIM cards for a new Portuguese mobile payments pilot, reports NFC World. The pilot will use NFC phones as mobile POS terminals that will be supported by big telecom operators in Portugal, in addition to MasterCard and Visa.

The scheme is called, MobiPag, and has been a two-year project. The NFC mobile payments aims decrease transaction costs for merchants and to help eliminate cash use. Stakeholders believe the new services will make the payments process easier for both the consumer and the shop owners.
