Study: Australia Leads in Electronic Payments

A new MasterCard report has indicated that 86 percent of consumer transactions in Australia are made using credit cards or mobile payments, according to Techworld. Only 15 percent of payments in the country are made using cash.

Cash payments represent 45 percent of transactions in China and 20 percent in the United States. Eddie Grobler, MasterCard Australasia division president, indicated that one reason for the Australia’s high ranking in electronic payments is that 99 percent of citizens above the age of 15 have a bank account.
