Thanksgiving Online Sales Rise 9%

Data from IBM indicates that online Thanksgiving sales rose 9 percent from 2012’s figures, though this growth was down from the 14 percent increase observed last year, TechCrunch reported on November 28.

The average value of a Thanksgiving online order was $132.13, down slightly from the $132.57 seen in 2012, IBM said. The data was compiled by measuring online transactions from more than 800 retailers in real time.

Mobile sales accounted for 22 percent of all online sales, but tablets were found to drive more conversions and purchases. Tablets drove 13 percent of all sales online, up from the 9 percent driven by smartphones.
