UPS Launches Warehouse-On-Demand Platform

Shipping and logistics conglomerate UPS has launched an online platform providing warehousing-as-a-service for corporate customers.

A press release issued on Tuesday (Aug. 28) said UPS launched Ware2Go, a new company that provides an online platform linking businesses with available warehouse space and fulfillment services. The enterprise targets online merchants in need of shipping and logistics services, and will supplement UPS’ existing eCommerce solutions for small- and medium-sized online retailers.

Ware2Go recruits and certifies warehouse providers, enabling online sellers to store products closer to customers without long-term contracts. The company offers storage, packing, fulfillment and shipping, with two-day delivery fulfilled by UPS. The company added that by working with its warehouse partners, it can offer companies competitive rates that they may not otherwise get as a small company negotiating with warehouses.

The platform will primarily target B2B eCommerce companies, UPS noted.

“Ware2Go uses innovative online technology to match excess warehouse and fulfillment capacity with merchant demand to provide transparent inventory, order fulfillment and final delivery,” said UPS Chief Transformation and Strategy Officer Scott Price in a statement. “We’re solving two major problems: speed to market and efficient warehousing.”

The online portal will also provide merchants with greater visibility into inventory and order progress.

Price added that companies in the industrial, automotive and technology industries will be particularly attracted to the warehousing offering. “Ware2Go leverages the scope and scale of UPS’ network to provide an integrated delivery solution to improve management of the order-to-delivery experience,” he said.

Earlier this month, UPS announced a collaboration with Chairish, an online platform over which vendors can sell furniture, bringing the company’s shipping and logistics capabilities to sellers on Chairish. In another tie-up, UPS said last month it is working with Latch to enhance the security of the last-mile delivery process. That partnership sees Latch providing smart access devices to UPS drivers that need to make in-building deliveries.
