BigCommerce Unveils Open Checkout For Brands Seeking Customization

BigCommerce Unveils Open Checkout

BigCommerce on Tuesday (Nov. 17) announced the rollout of Open Checkout in a press release.

The Austin-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) eCommerce platform described Open Checkout in the release as an “open source extension of the platform’s native checkout” that will enable merchants, app developers and other partners to fully customize the checkout experience for their customers.

For merchants and other players in the fast-expanding world of online commerce, the ability to tailor the checkout experience is crucial. Citing Statista, BigCommerce noted that shoppers in March abandoned 88 percent of all digital shopping carts.

The rollout of Open Checkout is also noteworthy for BigCommerce, according to the release, because it is the “only leading SaaS eCommerce platform to offer a production-level checkout with an open source front end.”

In particular, Open Checkout gives brands a high level of control over the design of the checkout experience, down to the “flexibility to define every pixel of their checkout page,” BigCommerce noted in the release.

Updates are also easy for developers to apply, with BigCommerce engineers in charge of maintaining the production-level source code that powers the platform’s checkout solution, the company noted.

“Today’s unveiling of BigCommerce’s Open Checkout is an important milestone that advances BigCommerce’s Open SaaS strategy by leveraging the benefits of Open Source,” said Jimmy Duvall, chief product officer at BigCommerce, in the release. “By opening up the presentation layer, brands of all sizes selling on BigCommerce can create unique experiences that resonate with shoppers.”

IntuitSolutions, an “Elite BigCommerce Partner,” according to the release, is one of the first to give Open Checkout a test run, having used it to develop its Ebizio Checkout application.

“Throughout our partnership with BigCommerce, IntuitSolutions’ clients have greatly benefited from the custom applications we’ve been able to develop,” said Eric Hansen, chief marketing officer at IntuitSolutions, in the release.
