OfferUp Merges With letgo, Combines Marketplace Apps

Recommerce marketplace OfferUp has integrated with similar app letgo and will combine its app with the letgo app for a new marketplace promising an increased amount of deals and more access to buyers and sellers, according to a press release emailed to PYMNTS.

Combining apps also means that all users have access to shipping companies like TruYou and Community MeetUp Spots. In addition, listings won’t expire, the release stated.

The new marketplace will support up to 20 million users per month, including auto dealers using the Verified Auto Dealer Program, according to the release.

Nick Huzar, OfferUp CEO, said in the release that the company has “never been this flush with so many new buyers and sellers — this is a win-win for anyone in America who is looking for a great deal or to make money from the things they don’t need.”

Alec Oxenford, letgo co-founder, has joined the board for OfferUp. He said the combination of the companies would lead to a greater synchronization.

“So many letgo users have found great success finding treasures and making money to supplement their income,” he said, according to the release. “Now that our marketplaces are combined, we expect people’s satisfaction in finding the right buyers and sellers to increase exponentially.”

Those who use letgo and want to access the new combined market can download the new OfferUp and letgo combined app and use their letgo sign-in to create an OfferUp account. Their details, like ratings, sales and purchase history, will be automatically integrated.

OfferUp has seen a boost during the pandemic as people have sought distractions from lockdown measures, and those unemployed have used it as a way to make some extra income by selling items, PYMNTS reported. Huzar told PYMNTS the market for gently used items saw a “huge influx of demand pretty quickly.”

He said one vital component of that was parents looking for ways to entertain young children stuck at home and using services like his to buy puzzles or games.
