Sionic Mobile Offers Pay At Pump – Minus The App

Sionic Mobile has announced the launch of mobile payments at gas pumps without requiring a mobile app.

The company is integrating its secure, zero-friction ULink service with fuel dispenser supplier Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s Passport point-of-sale solution, enabling fast and convenient payment at all PoS systems, payment systems, forecourt merchandising and support services to fuel retailers.

“Consumers crave fast, simple, secure forms of payment. Integrating Sionic Mobile’s ULink service into Passport eliminates steps in the payment process to create a seamless fueling experience. Our products and solutions are designed to help people do business better. With Sionic Mobile, we’re excited to break down technological barriers to simplify and enhance the retail fueling process for all,” Matthew Packer, marketing manager for Passport partnerships at Gilbarco Veeder-Root, said in a press release.

Sionic’s ULink delivers convenience services to consumers without the need to download multiple apps. ULink operates in Google Cloud, utilizing CyberSource, a Visa payment management platform, to provide its payment security solution and digital card payment services. The services also work with the Waze mobile app and Google business messaging chatbot agents.

When using this new pay-at-the-pump service, consumers will receive a message on their mobile device when arriving at participating gas stations, tap the message, and select a pump to turn on. If the consumer is not enrolled in the fuel retailer’s loyalty program, they can do so with a single tap — and no plastic cards, key fobs, or mobile apps are required.

“We are thrilled to be working with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to bring zero-friction mobile pay at the pump to gas stations large and small,” added Ronald Herman, CEO and founder of Sionic Mobile. “Consumers can turn on the pump with a tap or two on their mobile device without having to download and use yet another app.”
