GoDaddy Bundles Payment Technology and Domains to Create Pay Links

GoDaddy has bundled payment technology and domains to create branded pay links.

With these new Payable Domains, businesses with a newly registered or existing domain can start accepting payments even if they don’t have a website or an online store or publish content, GoDaddy said in a Thursday (Feb. 23) press release.

“Domains have largely been used as a digital identity for businesses, but with this new commerce capability we view the domain name taking on a far more versatile role for up-and-coming small businesses,” GoDaddy President of Domains Paul Nicks said in the release. “The Payable Domain ultimately serves as an innovative and cost-effective tool for entrepreneurs to accept online payments before even setting up a website.”

PYMNTS research has found that consumers are 67% more likely to shop with small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that offer their ideal payment methods.

This and other findings indicate that SMBs can leverage the goodwill that they already have with their customers if they can meet those customers where they are on payment options, according to the January edition of the “B2B and Digital Payments Tracker®,” a PYMNTS and American Express collaboration.

In practice, with the new offering from GoDaddy, when a business registers a domain name, they also receive a corresponding Payable Domain. They can then share a link to that Payable Domain via text, social media or QR code to give their customers access to a secure checkout page, according to the press release.

If they would like, businesses can also customize their Payable Domain with branded content like a logo and product images, the release said.

“We’re intensely focused on building connected commerce solutions that make growing a business easier, whether you’ve just named your business or are in the process of expanding its sales across the country,” GoDaddy President of Commerce Osama Bedier said in the release. “With Payable Domains, it’s never been easier to start selling online.”

The new Payable Domains are powered by GoDaddy Payments, a payments processing solution for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that was launched in 2021.

Businesses can use GoDaddy Payments to manage orders, billing, refunds and payments. The solution processes major debit and credit cards, charges a small fee on each transaction and delivers the funds to the business’ bank account as early as the next business day.
