Casper’s Building A Bigger Physical Footprint

Casper, the online mattress company that inspired an army of imitators, is expanding its brick-and-mortar footprint in Canada. Currently, the mattress-in-a-box firm is operating a single temporary local in Montréal that will be succeeded by a permanent physical store within the year.

Casper is already operating a physical location in Toronto — the site has been open for business since May. The goal, according to the firm, is to continue to build the brand’s prescense in the great northern frontier.

“We’ve seen tremendous success in Canada with three years of triple-digit growth,” said Philip Krim, co-founder and CEO of Casper. “Investing further in the market and expanding our local presence will enable us to bring better sleep to even more Canadians across the country.”

“Le Chalet Casper,” the official title of  the Montréal store, is modeled around an idealized version of a tranquil, traditional Québécois summer home. While visiting the chalet, shoppers are invited to test-drive three mini-sleep areas all themed around some distinctly Canadian summer amusement. In the case of this store, hiking, fishing and sailing are highlighted. Products can be purchased for carry out or for home delivery.

“At Casper, we believe that the experience of buying a mattress should be just as comfortable as sleeping on one,” said Nicole Tapscott, senior director and general manager of Casper Canada. “Le Chalet Casper is designed as an oasis for people to relax as they would in a summer chalet to escape the city heat and bustle. We encourage visitors to touch, feel and experience our sleep products in an environment that will leave them with the feeling of a life well-slept.”

Meanwhile, back in its home territory of the U.S., Casper’s physical expansion has been rolling along. The store’s first ever Manhattan store opened in February, bringing its American store count to 15.

Founded in 2014, Casper’s total global revenue has reached $600 million.
