Seattle-based Nordstrom is launching an order pickup service at Nordstrom Rack stores in the U.S. The retailer is rolling out the new service at the U.S. Nordstrom Rack stores, starting this month, for online orders for Nordstrom.com, NordstromRack.com and HauteLook.com orders.

In addition, the company said in a release, Nordstrom Rack stores will be able “to fulfill online orders for customers.” The move comes as retailers look to snag customers as the pandemic hits the sector.

“Our market strategy is how we provide customers with greater merchandise selection and faster delivery while increasing convenience through our services. Our Nordstrom Rack business plays a critical role within how we stay closer to our customers,” said Erik Nordstrom, chief executive officer of Nordstrom. “The addition of these services and fulfillment options within our Nordstrom Rack stores enables us to further engage and serve customers on their terms.”

The company said that, later this year, U.S. customers will be also be able to pick up NordstromRack.com and HauteLook.com orders at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Local stores.

“We are excited to expand these services and fulfillment options to our Nordstrom Rack stores,” said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack. He said Nordstrom is looking to “provide customers even greater access to our breadth of inventory and a more convenient and seamless shopping experience however they choose to shop with us.”

Like other brick-and-mortar retailers, Nordstrom has been hard hit by the COVID-19 crisis. In July, Nordstrom announced that it would only pay half of its rent for the balance of 2020. At the time, other retailers — Gap, Famous Footwear, Bed Bath & Beyond and AMC movie theaters — had fallen behind on or fully suspended rent payments.

For Nordstrom, second-quarter earnings showed sales declines from pandemic-related store closures. The company, however, failed to capture anywhere near the eCommerce sales momentum that other retailers saw in Q2.
