Cybersecurity Recommendations Debut From Presidential Commission

In recommendations put forth by a presidential commission created this past year focused on cybersecurity, the federal government should join forces with the private sector in efforts to boost digital network security, Reuters reported.

Among key initiatives proposed by the panel: The president (thus, going forward, Donald Trump and successors) and Congress need to work together to boost technology initiatives adopted by federal agencies to embrace more robust security. In addition, there should be an official ambassador for security efforts reaching beyond U.S. shores. The report stated: “Technological advancement is outpacing security and will continue to do so unless we change how we approach and implement cybersecurity strategies and practices.” Further, there is the recommendation that there exist a “nutritional label” geared toward cybersecurity and attendant safety ratings.

Reuters reported that the recommendations also posited that there be “harmonized international cybersecurity policies and global norms of behavior.” President Obama has asked the commission to brief the Trump team on its findings.
