Shopify Helps Merchants Sell Through Facebook Messenger

In the retail space, interacting with customers has become quicker and more digital. And Shopify is one of those main leaders. First, Shopify brought its merchants the capability to connect directly with customers through the Facebook Messenger platform, and now, it’s helping merchants sell directly and immediately in a more advanced fashion.

The purchase can start with the click of the “Shop Now” button on a business’ Facebook page. Using Shopify’s Messenger sales channel, the merchant’s product list and catalog will allow customers to browse. When ready to check out, that capability to purchase stays within Messenger to complete the action.

The idea is to meet the customer where they’re spending a lot of their time. Many times, that place is Facebook.

Shopify said it sees that the Messenger platform has high potential for direct sales, despite this currently being the beginning phases of use. Representatives at Shopify said this may take some time to adopt in North America, but other countries in Asia find this to be an already common activity.

Merchants are also able to send order status receipts to their customers through the platform, which engenders a relationship and potential for more future sales.

The platform will evolve even further, according to Shopify, to include additional payment options and even extend the platform to other social media outlets.
