Neiman Marcus has acknowledged that it took nearly five months before it detected the malware affecting its system.
On Jan. 20, the retailer held a conference call with credit card companies to review the situation. During the call, it was disclosed that the attack first began in mid-July, the New York Times reported Jan. 16.
Neiman Marcus also is facing accusations of hiding the information, as the retailer reached out to credit card companies in late December – before the breach was announced – to inform them that fraudulent purchases were being made.
The evolving situation suggests that new revelations may keep coming in, as predicted by Market Platform Dynamics CEO Karen Webster in a recent commentary.
