Mosaic Brings Frozen Foods Directly To Consumers

Mosaic has launched its first line of frozen food products in select east coast cities.

Founded by Blue Apron’s former Senior Directors of Operations Matt Davis and Sam McIntire, Mosaic’s first line of products boasts six vegetarian bowls: the Tuscan Pesto Bowl, the Greek Jackfruit Bowl, the Peanut Tofu Bowl, the Miso Tempeh Bowl, the Harvest Beet Bowl and the Smoky Southwest Bowl. All are made with fresh ingredients and cooked via roasting, grilling or sautéing before being frozen.

“Frozen foods is a $53 billion market that has remained unchanged for decades,” said Davis in a press release. “The potential of the category is huge, and the benefits — from convenience to the reduction of food waste — are numerous. We’re launching Mosaic to elevate the category and create healthy, delicious and convenient frozen meals for consumers.”

The company noted that the average American consumes 72 frozen meals per year, and sales from frozen meals continue to grow steadily.

“Traditional frozen meal options are bland, filled with preservatives and artificial ingredients, and not made with the same care as our best fresh meal options,” said McIntire. “We want to make something different by investing in great recipes and real cooking. The goal is to offer healthy, delicious meals ready in just a few minutes.”

Each meal comes with packaged sauces, such as basil pesto, lemony-sweet miso and coconut-peanut, as well as a garnish, such as feta crumbles, crushed almonds and toasted pine nuts. The meals range in price — a four-meal box costs $12.49 per meal, while a 12-meal box costs $8.99 per meal, and customers can subscribe for deliveries every one, two, four or eight weeks.

According to reports, Mosaic plans to launch in additional cities. For now, the service is available in New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and parts of Connecticut, Delaware and New Jersey.
