Startup COO IDs Biggest Investors In Payments

Most major investors have an interest in the payments industry, but which companies are among the most active in the financial technology sector? Dan Kimerling, chief operating officer at Giftly, recently tackled this topic.

Giftly is a second-year startup with some innovative ideas on integrating how we use gift and common payment cards.

Kimerling cited Thrive Capital, QED Investors, North Hill Ventures, and RRE Ventures (which Kimerling singles out as a “tier-one fin-tech investor”) as four of the eight major payment investment players.

Which companies have benefited the most from VCs’ appetite for stakes in payments firms? Kimerling lists On Deck Capital, Braintree, Square, and Venmo — and, unsurprisingly, gives Thrive Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners shout outs as Giftly investors as well.

Kimerling submits that his list is “not meant to be an exhaustive survey” of all qualified investors, but is merely passing along some of the well-known players within the specific payments and broader fin-tech investment industries.
