Wayfair Announces Sofia, World’s First Smart Sofa

Everyone’s getting in the voice-activated AI assistant game. Apple has Siri, Amazon has Alexa and Samsung rolled out Bixby. Today, online home furnishing and décor company Wayfair announces the latest, most innovative addition yet to the growing voice-enabled ecosystem.

Introducing Sofia, the world’s first ever voice-activated smart sofa. Sofia pairs with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth technology and cable TV to enable couch-based, voice-enabled access to a wide range of mobile, IoT and other “smart” devices in the home.

“After months of iterating, we’re thrilled to introduce the first ever smart sofa to Wayfair customers. This futuristic piece is another example of Wayfair’s unwavering commitment to innovation to deliver exceptional offerings for the home. We believe Sofia will revolutionize the way people relax in their homes,” said Steve Conine, cofounder and co-chairman, Wayfair.

In a recent survey, Wayfair found that 30 percent of respondents spend two to three hours per day on their sofa. With this statistic in mind, the company has brought a product to market that allows digital productivity and relaxation capabilities in a single piece of comfy hardware.

Sofia is the perfect blend of work, play and relaxation. The smart couch allows users to access their calendar and respond to emails and text messages via voice. Additionally, users can upload photos and video to social media, order food delivery, and control their smart TVs.

Sofia also comes equipped with parental controls that sense unruly kids or pets who’ve jumped up on the couch, issuing a verbal warning.

On the relaxation end, Sofia comes standard with built-in smart massage therapy technology that adjusts to each sitter’s personal needs; cushions and pillows automatically fluff. Sofia self-cleans via built-in vacuum system and automatically rolls loose change that falls between its cushions.

Starting at $699, Wayfair offers Sofia in beige, black, brown or gray cotton upholstery. The smart couch is available in L-shape, U-shape, curved, symmetrical and chaise models.
