Subway Adds Self-Serve Kiosks And Mobile Order Ahead

Subway, the world’s largest restaurant chain, announced it is updating its store design to include new digital self-order kiosks, separate food prep areas and a designated pick-up location for kiosk and mobile orders.

According to a press release, the kiosks will feature Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, as well a faster experience for delivery and pre-ordering via its mobile app and Facebook Messenger bot.

There will also be a fresh veggie display with whole tomatoes, green peppers, onions and cucumbers that are sliced daily, plus new bread and cookie displays on the front of the line. And Subway Fresh Forward restaurants also include new menu items, starting with pico de gallo, new sauces, house-made pickles and made-without-gluten bread.

Subway worked with FRCH Design Worldwide to design the new space, which includes bright and playful decor, inspired by fresh vegetables, as well as curated music and comfortable seating with USB charging ports and complimentary Wi-Fi.

“We’ve created a modern design that gives our guests choices – from how they order, to how they pick up their food, to how they enjoy their meal,” said Trevor Haynes, vice president of operations at Subway®. “The reactions from our guests, our franchisees and the Sandwich Artists™ has been incredibly positive.”

The “Fresh Forward” store design is currently being tested in 12 locations in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., including: Tamarac, Fla.; Orlando (two locations); Winter Park, Fla.; Chula Vista, Calif.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Palmview, Texas; Hillsboro, Ore.; Vancouver, Wash.; Beauport, QC; Granby, QC; and Manchester, U.K.

The new mobile ordering and Apple Pay experiences will be available through the existing Subway iPhone app for customers visiting the already refreshed locations.
