Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke said in a Monday post on X: “We are excited to announce we are partnering deeply with Muse to enable agentic checkout with Shop Pay on all Shopify stores, offering people an easy and delightful way to shop and check out with Muse.”

Shop Pay is Shopify’s accelerated checkout solution for Shopify merchants that lets buyers make purchases with one-tap checkout, according to the company’s website. Shop Pay can be integrated with any platform or app, anywhere Shopify merchants sell online.

Shopify reported in August that Shop Pay surpassed $400 billion in lifetime accelerated gross merchandise volume in June.

Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said in a Monday post on X: “We are excited for Muse to be partnering deeply with [Shopify] to enable agentic checkout with Shop Pay on all Shopify stores! We want to give our Musers access to a wide range of stores to find the absolute perfect products.”

Meta launched Muse Sept. 8, describing it as a personal AI agent that is “built for everyone.” Muse is designed to be simple to use, allowing users to communicate with the personal AI agent in the Muse app or in WhatsApp as if they were messaging another person.

It was reported Sunday (Sept. 20) that Amazon barred Muse from its eCommerce site, saying that the personal AI agent could create privacy and security risks if it captures and stores customer credentials.

Shopify Chief Financial Officer Jeff Hoffmeister said Sept. 10 that while agentic commerce is in its early days, Shopify expects the technology to accelerate the global shift of commerce from offline to online and benefit both Shopify and merchants.

“When you start with an LLM and you do your searching there, you’re 2.5x more likely to end up right on the project page rather than starting somewhere in a general spot on the merchant’s website,” Hoffmeister said. “You’re going straight to the product you want, and then that leads to an uplift in conversion. We’ve seen roughly an 80% uplift in conversion.”
