The November date may have been chosen to allow Anthropic to share its third-quarter financials, which are expected to show strong results. The date was chosen before the recent debate about whether artificial intelligence is developing too quickly, according to the report.
The timing could change, per the report.
Anthropic did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.
An IPO could value Anthropic at about $2 trillion and raise as much as $100 billion, surpassing the records set by SpaceX in June, according to the report.
Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a paywalled article by the New York Times that was based on unnamed sources, that Anthropic is preparing for an IPO as soon as November and is expected to make its debut within weeks.
The report said that Anthropic’s revenue run rate surged from $9 billion at the end of 2025 to $65 billion at the end of July and that this acceleration bolsters its plans for an IPO despite the increase in public concern about AI.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Fortune Sept. 11 that OpenAI’s IPO will not take place in 2026. Altman said that OpenAI has long insisted it is in no rush to list. Concerns about AI safety mean that “right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public,” he added.
As with Anthropic, OpenAI’s IPO could be one of the largest public offerings ever.
Anthropic announced June 1 that it confidentially filed for an IPO and that the timing would depend on market conditions and other factors. OpenAI said June 8 that it had submitted a confidential IPO filing and that it had not decided on the timing.
PYMNTS reported Thursday (Sept. 17) that experts say a potential frontier AI slowdown would not slow adoption of the technology.
“Enterprises won’t stop adopting AI just because they don’t have new models to deploy,” Savvi AI CEO and Co-Founder Maya Mikhailov said in the report.
