France: Renault’s priority is boosting Nissan alliance says Le Maire

French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire on Saturday, September 7, said the priority for the French car maker was to strengthen its alliance with Nissan. This poured cold water on the possibility of merger talks between Fiat Chrysler and Renault resuming any time soon, according to Reuters.

    “I think it would be better not to do two things at the same time,” Le Maire said when asked about a possible restart of the collapsed merger talks.

    Nissan is currently looking for a new Chief Executive and a change at the top of Nissan may also potentially open the door to further talks between Renault and Fiat Chrysler about a future combination, months after the pair called off negotiations over a €33 billion (US$36.7 billion) merger.
