Germany: Liberty Global may join fight for Germany cable co after Virgin approval
On the heels of welcome news that Liberty Global has won European approval to acquire Virgin Media Inc. for $16 billion, the cable giant is reportedly mulling over a move to takeover Kabel Dutschland Holding AG. One the second-largest cable company in Germany, Kabel Deutschland is also a target for Vidafone Group Plc. According to reports, the deal would land an additional 8.5 million subscribers to Liberty Global’s current 7 million users in Germany, posing a new threat to Deutsche Telekom AG as well as Vodafone. A spokesperson for Liberty Global declined to comment on the matter.
