Israel: Antitrust group files $166M case against airline cartel

An Israeli antitrust organization has sued four airlines for price-fixing, filing the suit in Central District Court and requesting that the case be considered a class action. Hatzlaha Consumer Movement for Promoting a Fair Social Economy filed the case against El Al Israel Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines for about $166 million. According to the suit, the price-fixing occurred between 2000 and 2006 and raised prices for extra fuel and security; the cartel was uncovered by foreign authorities, say reports, but this marks the first time the case has been brought to court in Israel.
