Kalyan Dasgupta

Kalyan Dasgupta is a competition and regulatory economist with significant international experience. In recent years his experience has included vertical mergers and mergers at retail, landmark abuse of dominance litigation cases, antitrust dimensions of "FRAND" disputes, antitrust implications of infrastructure sharing, bundling, tying, vertical leveraging, analysis of buyer power, coordinated effects and the implications of information sharing. On an industry basis, he has analyzed competitive issues in NGLs and petrochemicals, professional data services, retail and wholesale gasoline, broadcasting distribution, air cargo, pipelines, news media, and credit cards. He maintains strong involvement in the analysis of regulated industries, with a historic specialization in the economics of telecommunications, but with substantial experience in the energy sector too. Besides his BA and M.Sc. degrees in economics, he has taken additional advanced coursework in economics, public policy and operations research as well as mathematics. He has substantial experience with applied econometrics, ranging from estimating economy-wide production functions using simultaneous equations techniques to estimating demand systems for use in market definition and merger analysis. He has worked on cases before courts and agencies in Australia, the U.K., Canada and the U.S., and his wider global experience includes the EU, South Africa and the Middle East. He has filed expert reports before the National Energy Board and Ontario Energy Board in Canada.
