Africa: COMESA showcases rapid merger growth

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa is highlighting the rapid growth of merger deals in the region, say reports, as the group announced three merger notifications in January of this year alone.

COMESA received just 11 merger notifications in the entirety of 2013, say reports.

COMESA also said that more deals have been struck since the January 2014 numbers came in. It’s a promising trend that the competition regulator champions as a way to boost billions of dollars into the continent.
