Antitrust regulator rewarded by getting a cut of City Petrol Group’s 100 million dram fine

In return for yesterday’s 100 million dram fine on City Petrol Group, the Armenian government rewarded bonuses to the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC). SCPEC was awarded a quarter of the fine, amounting to 3.5 million drams (approximately $9,000) for each member. Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian believes the reward, although unprecedented, will “encourage the commission to slap heavier fines and work better.”
