Apple made headlines on Thursday, supporting a ‘right to repair bill,’ Senate Bill 244, that would allow consumers to fix their damaged devices. The California-based tech giant’s reversal from their years-long opposition towards access to repairs has been met with widespread praise.

In a statement, Apple said “We support ‘SB 244′ because it includes requirements that protect individual users’ safety and security as well as product manufacturers’ intellectual property.” Apple urged members of the California legislature to pass the bill, which seeks to mandate manufacturers to give customers the opportunity to fix their own products.
