Armenia: Antitrust regulator chooses next target to probe

Armenia’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition announced Friday it has chosen to monitor more closely the nation’s healthcare market – with particular attention paid to the pharmaceutical industry – to investigate possible collusion.

    The announcement was made alongside the head of Russia’s competition regulator at a meeting during which antitrust officials discussed abuses in the pharmaceutical markets within both Armenia and Russia.

    According to reports, Russian and Armenia officials shared experiences of doctors receiving rewards for prescribing certain types of drugs; similar situations have occurred where doctors will sent patients to particular hotels and receive profits from that hospital.
