Australia: ACCC goes local in competition fight and puts Woolworths under scrutiny

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is taking a more localized approach to enforcing competition laws, with several reviews of supermarket acquisitions looking at the impact of competition in the local area. Dominance in an area by one chain can be a concern, as it has the potential to interfere with normal competition forces which generally keep prices competitive in the longer term.
