Australia: ACCC spearheads ball bearings cartel proceedings

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced Monday it has launched formal civil proceedings against ball bearing manufacturer Koyo Australia Pty Ltd. The company is accused of partaking in a cartel regarding ball bearing supplies used in automobiles and industrial applications between 2008 and 2009, say reports. Two of Koyo’s rivals are also accused of forming the cartel. In a statement, ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court said the proceedings “sends a strong message” regarding the regulator’s anti-cartel efforts.
