Australia: ACCC to allow collective bargaining between coal producers, water supply co
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released a draft proposal that would allow coal producers in Queensland to collectively bargain their contracts with SunWater. The producers include Cuckatoo Coal, Cuesta Coal, MetroCoal, Peabody Energy Australia PCI, QC Resource Investments and Whitehaven Coal. The collective bargaining would pertain to deals of water supply as well as to the ongoing Nathan Dam development project. In a statement made by ACCC Chairman Rod Sims, the ACCC hopes that the collective bargaining would ensure access to the water supplied by the Nathan Dam as well as result in “transaction cost savings.”
