Australia: Domestic booking increases seven-fold from latest airline deal

The partnership between Qantas and Emirates airlines has reportedly lead to what chief executive of Qantas Alan Joyce described as a nearly seven-fold jump in domestic bookings thanks to Emirates’ promotion of Australian destinations. To mark the official takeoff of the deal, the airlines launched two A380 superjumbos in a low-flying formation, thought to be the first of its kind to occur in the world. Qantas has also gained 40 percent more capacity into Asia. Despite the good news, Joyce said that Qantas will not adjust its target of profitability in 2015 but will look for future growth in the coming years. The partnership earned final approval by authorities last week.
