The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission launched legal action against Mitsubishi Electric Australia following a probe that found evidence the company engaged in anticompetitive resale price maintenance.
According to reports, the ACCC claims that on three accounts Mitsubishi attempted to fixed air conditioning prices between 2009 and 2011 by trying to convince Mannix Electrical to not sell Mitsubishi air conditioning products below a certain price.
The regulator says that when Mannix declined to follow Mitsubishi’s request, Mitsubishi terminated Mannix’s status as a “dealer” and instead renamed the company as a “contractor.”
In a statement, Mitsubishi said it is cooperating fully with authorities.
