The push for an inquiry was triggered after a row between Fortescue Metals Group chairman Andrew Forrest, BHP and Rio Tinto over allegations the big two mining groups are driving down iron ore prices to push smaller companies out of the market.
“We haven’t made a final decision in that regard at all. We haven’t made any final decision in this regard,” Mr Hockey told the ABC on Sunday.
“Nick Xenophon was moving a motion in the Senate. I spoke to Mr Xenophon, Senator Xenophon, I have spoken to all the players here and overseas and we will be making a final decision about whether we would proceed with something that is sensible and made up of sensible people over the next few weeks.”
