Australia: Woolworths supermarket leader fighting ACCC head-on with new report

 |  March 5, 2013

Supermarket giant Woolworths is ready to fight the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission head-on as it has prepared a document, obtained by the media, which outlines direct refutes to ACCC claims against the company. The antitrust authority blocked several merger applications by the company last year, and currently remains a major hurdle for the company to open 87 new locations in the next three years, according to reports. Now, Woolworths is ready to refute any claims that the company abuses market dominance; in its document, the company claims that only 7 percent of Australians shop only at Woolworths, and that its market share has remained the same since 2007.
