Canada: Bureau accepts remedies for waste management merger

A press release from the Canada Competition Bureau has announced the authority reached an agreement with waste management company WM Quebec Inc in what it calls a preservation of competition in the market of solid, non-hazardous waste disposal in Western Quebec. The agreement was made after a review of a proposed merger between WM Quebec and RCI Environment Inc would result in a lessening of competition in the sector. The remedies over merger concerns include selling the rights of up to 1.875 million tons in waste disposal over 20 years at a Quebec landfill. WM Quebec Inc is a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc.
