Canada: Chocolate leaders Hershey, Nestle face price-fixing charges

Some of the world’s largest chocolate companies are facing Canada’s Competition Bureau for allegations of price-fixing, according to reports. The Bureau has announced criminal charges against Nestle Canada Inc., Mars Canada Inc. and distributor Itwal Ltd.; further, Hershey Canada Inc. will likely plead guilty to price-fixing charges, say reports. The guilty plea is expected to be entered on June 21. The case concerns the prices of chocolate confectionary products sold throughout Canada. The charges are the result of a probe launched by the Bureau more than five ears ago.
