Canada: Commissioner outlines plans, goals for antitrust authority

Canada’s Interim Commissioner of Competition gave a speech earlier this month in which he outlined the agenda for the antitrust body, outlining three major priorities of his team. Those priorities include: “focused enforcement,” a higher level of transparency within the Commission, and increased collaboration between stakeholders and the authority. The Commissioner noted, however, that his team does not have unlimited funds and therefore must prioritize cases on which to take. Repeat offenders, particularly egregious cases and cases involving new laws will take priority when deciding which caseloads to accept.
