Canada has closed its own chapter in the eBooks saga as its Bureau of Competition released a statement announcing a settlement with eBook publishers that ends an investigation into alleged anticompetitive behavior.
The Bureau launched a probe into eBook publishers Hachette Books, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster over distribution agreements with certain retailers that prevented retailers from competitively pricing their products.
Reports say the publishers have settled with authorities and agreed to remove or amend clauses in contracts made with retailers that lead to the anticompetitive practices.
A similar agreement was inked in the US in 2012 and 2013.
