China: HTC needs merger to stay relevant, say experts

Financial experts said smartphone maker HTC should consider merging with other technology companies in order to remain competitive and relevant, according to reports. Australia-based financial advisory firm Macquarie Securities made the remarks Monday through its Taiwan branch; analyst Daniel Chang called HTC’s current position “concerning” as it struggles to keep up with competitor in domestic sales. HTC’s branding is strong abroad, however, which could be attractive to companies possibly interested in a merger, said Chang.
