Colombia’s Superintendence for Industry and Commerce introduced last Friday a new tool, which will allow the agency to closely monitor the electricity market in Colombia and to induce power generators to engage in greater competition in order to improve commercial practices in the industry.
Industry superintendent Pablo Felipe Robledo explained that the design of this monitoring tool took over a year and a half of work. The idea is to push for greater competition among power generators before requiring direct involvement and sanctions from authorities.
“I am convinced, and I’ve said it many times, that this country can’t be fixed through fines. We have to redouble our efforts in order to make businesses commit to best practices in free and open competition” said Robledo.
