Competition Buzz: Intermodal Telecommunications Infrastructure Sharing : Evidence from Mexico

Infrastructure sharing helps reduce the requirement necessary for deployment of fiber networks which implies a significant reduction in the costs of civil work. In the current context, in which we need to have higher capacity and extension of networks to study and understand the mechanisms that can help reduce levels of investment needed is particularly relevant. Here we review an experience of infrastructure sharing has been carried out in Mexico by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The case is of interest both because it was one of the first experiences of sharing between different networks in the region and because it was, in our view, a success . It is also interesting to analyze this case in the light of the recent reforms in telecommunications and energy in Mexico.
